Arimedadi Thailam is the classical oil of the Ayurvedic oil-pulling ritual, known in the tradition as Gandusha. Art of Vedas keeps its composition in the original form: an astringent base of Acacia (Khadira and Arimeda) with a blend of aromatic herbs and spices in sesame oil, cooked by the classical Sneha Paka method. It is used in the morning by swishing a little oil in the mouth and then spitting it out. What Arimedadi Thailam is
Arimedadi Thailam is a classical Ayurvedic herbal oil prepared by Art of Vedas for oil pulling, the traditional practice of swishing oil in the mouth and spitting it out. It is anhydrous, meaning it contains no added water: a sesame oil base carrying an astringent Acacia decoction and a classical blend of aromatic herbs and spices, with no preservative needed. It is made in India under Good Manufacturing Practice following ISO 22716 principles, is not tested on animals, carries a period after opening of 12 months, and is offered in a 200 ml size.
It is a richly composed traditional oil. It is not vegan, as it contains Shellac, a natural resin used in the classical formula. It is for use in the mouth and is then spat out; it is not to be swallowed. The complete ordered ingredient list is given further down this page.
Arimedadi Thailam and the oil-pulling ritual
Arimedadi Thailam takes its name from Arimeda, the Sanskrit name of Acacia leucophloea, and belongs to the classical group of oils prepared for the mouth. In the tradition it is used for Gandusha, the practice of holding and swishing oil in the mouth, one of the oral-care practices the classical texts count among Dinacharya, the daily routine.
A small amount of the warmed oil is swished gently around the mouth for a few minutes and then spat out, followed by a rinse with warm water. It is a morning ritual, traditionally done before eating.

Tested with every batch
Every production batch of Arimedadi Thailam is tested before it is released for sale. Two things are checked: heavy metals, by a laboratory method called ICP-MS, and microbiological safety, against the international standard ISO 17516:2014. The figures below are representative results; every batch is retested before release.
Heavy metals
Five heavy metals were tested by ICP-MS. Each one was within the permitted limit. The right-hand column shows the maximum level allowed under German BfR guidance, so you can see the limit each result sits within.

Microbiological safety
Microbiological safety is tested against ISO 17516:2014. The overall counts of microbes stay within the limits, and the specific organisms that must not be present were each absent.
